Although there are clear advantages to males of having multiple mates (polygyny) the rationale for females mating with multiple males (polyandry) remains one of the most controversial issues in evolutionary biology. Here we show in a wild population of Australian terrestrial toadlets that females partition their clutches between the nests of up to eight different males and that clutch partitioning substantially reduces the risk of nest failure.

Genome Size And Wing Parameters In Passerine Birds
Amounts of DNA per genome vary more than 7,000-fold among animal species. Some groups such as amphibians exhibit a large range in genome size, whereas others like birds are limited to relatively small genomes. Genome size correlates positively with cell size, which is associated with an inverse relationship between DNA amount and metabolic rate in mammals and birds.

Local Adaptation In Brown Trout Early Life-History Traits: Implications For Climate Change Adaptability
The ability of organisms to adapt to global warming is an issue of concern. Four brown trout populations in Denmark were studied, which spawn in rivers experiencing different temperature conditions during the time of incubation of eggs and embryos. By rearing fry from the populations in a common environmental setting, we demonstrated that they were genetically adapted to temperature conditions in their home rivers at ecologically important juvenile traits.
